Seesmic for Blackberry Review

Seesmic for BlackberryMuch like TweetGenius, I like Seesmic for Blackberry’s Interface.

As a web designer / developer, things that look visually pleasing to me are more likely to get more use.

And when you read this post, it’s almost going to sound like I’m “hating” on TweetGenius…but I’m not. I like the way TweetGenius looks, but for an average Twitter user like myself…it just doesn’t have everything that I need.

HOWEVER…just like tweeting your location with TweetGenius, the location is pretty exact. And when I mean…exact…I DO mean…EXACT. So…if you’ve got stalkers…or your twitter feed is not “blocked” or “private”…please don’t turn send out your location, unless you really want to. ubertwitter beta 6 uses approximations…which is a great safety feature if you’d like people to know that you’re in the area, but never really know where you are. lol.

But let’s talk about the logistics…(read: features).

PROS

  • Great Interface…Easy to Use…
  • No Advertisements in the interface…AT ALL.
  • Reply to All – unlike TweetGenius.
  • Posts to Twitter faster than the new Ubertwitter Beta 6 and TweetGenius.
  • Grab posts in increments of 20. Ubertwitter grabs 100.
  • New @reply count (#) in menu, however there’s not visual color difference in the interface.
  • Automatically fetch new tweets in the background
  • Save tweets as favorites
  • Delete tweets
  • Send your GPS location – THIS IS EXACT. BE. CAREFUL. PLEASE. THX.!!!
  • Shorten URLs
  • View trends
  • Search in real time
  • Mark messages as read when you’re done reading them
  • View user timelines – TweetGenius gives you a separate profile. Seesmic shows a short version under each tweet like Ubertwitter Beta 6.
  • View users by both username and real name

CONS

  • Automatic Refresh minimum is 5 minutes. (however, you can hit refresh to refresh whenever you’d like)
  • Not able to distinguish difference between @replies to you and those to everyone else.
  • Not able to turn off “Sent” confirmation for successful posting.
  • No Menu Item for Camera – No “Send to Seesmic” option under the camera
  • Not able to view Mini Photos from Twitpic and TweetPhoto like Ubertwitter. You have to click on photo URL to open in Blackberry browser.
  • Add a photo or select a photo doesnt show photo preview. This is built like TweetGenius.

If you’re looking for a FREE good looking twitter application, that’s fast, simple and easy…definitely go with Seesmic for Blackberry. It’s pretty similar to TweetGenius, which makes TweetGenius’s sale cost of $7.99 seem a little high. Don’t get me wrong… TweetGenius could be considered worth the cost of $9.99 / on sale $7.99, but if Seesmic is passing out the same features with GEO Location…for free…with NO ADs…I’d go with Free Seesmic for Blackberry.
